You're absolutely right — there have been some massive problems this week (some weird or crazy, others annoyingly technical). So, here’s a quick review of everything J and X have been dealing with over the past week.
From Day 1 of making this website, A decided they wanted to be our “advisor” and “article writer.”
Great... except A is lazy and not exactly motivated. They can spend hours doing completely unproductive stuff, but the moment we ask for an article, suddenly they “need to think about it.” Spoiler: they’re still thinking.
We kept pushing A to write something (and yes, we were going to pay them if they did), but nope. Zero articles. Not even a draft. And the “advice” they gave? Not exactly the best thing I've ever heard.
To be fair, some of this is on us. We trusted A’s “amazing English skills” — even though we sometimes suspected they were planning to secretly use AI to write everything anyway. Maybe we believed too much in their ability to meet deadlines or remember their job for more than 30 seconds at a time.
A also wanted a salary, which somehow turned into donation money for me (X). So we made a whole “donation salary” plan where we’d pay them depending on how much actual A-effort they put in. We even printed a contract. All we needed was A’s signature… which we are still waiting for.
Long story short: we may have overestimated A.
Log in / sign up system.
We were very excited at the prospect of a possible login/signup system for the website but after many hours of complicated fiddling about online and coding, nothing seemed to work. J even installed some applications which were meant to assist the creation of a backend server database, but even after swamps of effort, we tested and tested - to no avail.
To this moment, the database is not functional and the login/signup function is not in the short-term plan for development. It was initially introduced to the website but after we realised we just couldn't get it to work, it was taken down. A helped us by saying nothing as advice and the internet was not entirely useful either. Every way of solving our problem required a different this and that, so much to the extent that at some point we just realised we couldn't help it.
The main plan for the future is that there will be access to comment and to have some articles posted by users. I tried made a simple (when I say simple, I mean simple as in 2 input boxes) log in system - in which I both failed and succeeded in. The login details were registered until i re-ran the system and my testing database got cleared after the output -___- . Not a great help.
Overall, that was a severe waste of time (in which A could have written two articles).
Money - the one thing that we all want??
Something we couldn't quite grasp in the last week, although it wasn't necessarily our highest priority. It was certainly difficult and there were some barriers along the way (including learning that Google can't comply with its own services - shocking). At this moment in time, there are no advertisements on this website - perhaps apart from the one advert on the homepage which - well, literally advertises itself as a space.
Monetisation may not be our biggest or most complex setback to this website's development but it certainly has been a bit depressing at times. However, knowing that this is a long-term investment - cough cough X - it was more bearable to work with.
The prime reason for this website's existence, after all, is to be fun and make fun games.
Now, you've just read quite a lot of yap. It may seem absolutely irrelevant for you, but thanks for reading anyways! Your support really helps us to fuel this website.
